The Great Murals of Baja California - Sierra de San Francisco
California Rock Art Foundation and Saddling South
San Gregorio
November 15-22, 2020*
The California Rock Art Foundation is pleased to announce limited openings on a trip scheduled for
November 2020 in Baja California Sur, Mexico. In collaboration with our partners at Saddling South, we have organized one extraordinary trip into the Sierra de San Francisco in the heart of the Great Mural Rock Painting Tradition. This venture into San Gregorio offers amazing anthropological rancho experiences and visits to some lesser known archaeology and ancient painted sites. Trip is subject to date changes or cancellation depending on COVID-19. We are hopeful the pandemic will be under control by November.*

This adventure departs from Loreto, a coastal town located on the Sea of Cortez. The journey will take our guests to
San Gregorio within the Sierra de San Francisco, and will offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trip involves visits to the nearby ranchos and visits to some of the most spectacular rock art in the world - incredible painted rock shelters in the rugged mountain wilderness – known to some as the Grand Canyon of Baja, Mexico.

Travel to the canyon sites requires riding astride mules and walking on steep, rocky terrain, along exposed canyon trails. Participants should be in proper physical condition to attend. First time rider? No problem. The mules are sure footed and not easily spooked, and the experienced vaqueros (cowboys) and guides will be there to assist you.
The trip has a room for just six (6) people, so we are looking for adventurers to fill this limited space, incredible tour.
Bring a friend or come solo. These trips are tons of fun, very social, and offer unique and remarkable experiences of spectacular rock art, world class vistas and scenery, exceptional archaeology, and traditional local vaquero culture.
Pending full trip occupancy, your trip will also be guided by a California Rock Art Foundation expert archaeologist who will point out sites along the way and field questions and discussions regarding rock art, archaeology, anthropology, Native Baja Cochimí ethnography and history, Spanish contact, indigenous religion, interpretations and age of the paintings, and more. They will be certain to answer many of your questions and provide an engaging and immersive trip;
